Celebrating the 20th World Veterinary Day

Celebrating the 20th World Veterinary Day

This last weekend of April let's celebrate the 20th World Veterinary Day, the theme of World Veterinary Day 2020 is "Environmental protection for improving animal and human health."

Why Celebrate World Veterinary Day?

World Veterinary Association (WVA) established World Veterinary Day in 2000 as an annual celebration to promote and highlight the lifesaving work performed by the veterinary profession around the world. Though hard to accurately calculate, it is estimated that there are currently 1.8 Million vets worldwide. Since last year, the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and the Global Animal Medicine Association have organized the World Veterinary Day Award in recognition of a member of the World Animal Health Organization related to this theme.

Who is the World Veterinary Association (WVA)?

World Veterinary Association (WVA) was found in 1863, by Dr. J. Gamgee. The World Veterinary Association unites and represents the global veterinary industry. It is an umbrella organization of the National Veterinary Association and the International Veterinary Association working in different veterinary fields. The World Veterinary Association will continue to uphold the ambitions of Dr. Gamgee, gather veterinarians around the world, share experiences, exchange opinions, and jointly promote the development of veterinary medicine. WVA safeguards the health and welfare of animals and humans, as well as the interests of its member organizations.

According to the World Veterinary Association, as advocates of single health, veterinarians know that the environment, human, and animal health are inseparable.

The World Veterinary Association and Animal Health Organization will award the World Veterinary Day Award. They will award the annual theme best contribution award of US $ 2500 to the World Association of Veterinary Association Members, either alone or in cooperation with other organizations. Details about World Veterinary Day and the World Veterinary Day Award are available at the World Veterinary Association website.

What Exactly Is a Veterinarian?

Veterinarians are doctors who work on animals and use their skills to evaluate patients, make the diagnosis, and treat various diseases. Veterinarians' goal is to maintain quality of life and reduce pain while ensuring that they work with pet owners as much as possible to help them take care of their pets. Also, medical professionals treat different species, depending on their specific focus. Veterinarians have improved the lives of animals and may even bring better health outcomes for humans.

What Does the Veterinarian Do?

Veterinarians deal with animals, but this is just the fur of these medical professionals. Some typical duties include diagnosing the disease, vaccinating, prescribing, and educating pet owners.

For many practitioners, working with pet owners is one of the essential parts of the job. Veterinarians can provide valuable information about preventive measures that can keep animals healthy. The 2017 Pet Health Status Report from Banfield Pet Hospital shows that listening to veterinary nutritional advice is one of the best ways to combat animal obesity.

Veterinarians specializing in behavioral medicine conduct detailed assessments to determine if there are medical causes of animal behavioral problems and help formulate treatment plans. On the other hand, a veterinary toxicologist may work in the office.

Animal lovers often mention the first experience that aroused their interest. Although the specific sources of inspiration may vary, veterinarians drive some of our most memorable animal experiences. It is precise because of their contributions that we can visit the zoo, read books that delve into animal behavior, and become an excellent pet owner.

Veterinary insights were not always as readily available as they are today. You may be wondering how we got to our current veterinary level. One of the best ways to understand developments in veterinary medicine is to look back in History.
